Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) pertain to aspects of independent living that are not necessarily daily necessities. These activities encompass tasks such as meal preparation, financial management, shopping for personal items or groceries, housework, laundry, and cell phone usage.
The requirement for assistance with IADLs often serves as an initial indication that a client may benefit from external support, although it may be less noticeable than the need for help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
